Last Day of Girls Learn to Play Hockey program is today (3/26/25)
Hello everyone!
Today marks our last day of the Girls Learn to Play program at Detroit Skating Club.
It has been an absolute pleasure to work with your little hockey players on a weekly basis. Their smiles and joy for the game have made this so valuable! I love seeing them all every Wed, wearing their new jerseys and socks and looking like true hockey players! Many started off with little skating experience, some never held a hockey stick, some were crying, many had hair in their face... but they were brave, came to this new program without knowing what it was about and participated with energy and excitement. For that, I am thankful! They didn't all start as hockey players and now they can all say that they are HOCKEY PLAYERS!!

I am sad that our weekly Wednesday time is done... I am working on getting a few more skates for our group; they may not be at consistent times or weekly because both Rink C and Rink A will be undergoing a lot of repairs and shut down for maintenance. Detroit Skating Club is also beginning its Ice Show month where a lot of the ice time is taken up for Ice Show rehearsals in preparation for the final show May 2-4 (which is a great show if you are interested!).
For awareness, I have made the request of DSC and the USA Hockey Club for three things:
1) Additional ice beyond today for our girls in the spring... stay tuned
2) Maintain a weekly Girls Learn to Play program in the Fall through next Spring
3) Have enough ice time for a Girls 8U or 10U team (depending on interest and age of players) that will play in the Michigan Girls Hockey League.
*If your daughter is interested in more of a challenge and wants to play on an organized "travel" hockey team, please complete this interest form: https://forms.gle/iBkdDXMoE4igFnEL8
*For those who remain in the Learn to Play program beyond this year (vs an organized team), I will make sure to seek out opportunities to play scrimmages and fun tournaments for those kiddos as well.
Please know that I am here if you have any questions about skating or hockey for your kids. I will keep sharing resources as I have them as well.
I still also teach Learn to Skate on Tuesdays (a hockey skating class!) from 5-6pm and also offer private skating lessons. You may reach out to me at 313-969-7057.
See you soon! Nicolette
